was proved to have systemic lupus erythematosus; no heart murmur was heard. One week later she developed a fever and petechiae; urine and blood cultures grew Streptococcus faecalis (see Table). She was treated with steroids and courses of chloramphenicol, erythromycin, and penicillin.
